SLP expanding

On 20 May 20, 2016, Swedish Lorry Parts broke ground on a new facility in Kumla, Sweden. “We are growing fast, and in less than seven years, we have outgrown our existing premises,” says Peter Emilson, CEO of SLP. “We need more space if we’re going to continue growing."

Jimmy Lekensjö of developer Kumla Fastigheter and SLP chief Peter Emilson ceremonially break ground on a new 4,200 square metre warehouse for Swedish Lorry Parts.

Swedish Lorry Parts is adding 4,200 square metres of extra space to accommodate its already extensive stock of spare parts. This will nearly double the company’s existing storage capacity. With the new warehouse, SLP can stock 25,000 article numbers, up from today's 13,000.

Increased delivery speed and accuracy

“We’re not only adding more storage capacity, we’re reviewing our entire logistics flow and implementing efficiency improvements,” says Emilson. The new warehouse will be arranged around the steps of a logistical flow, with packing paths and stations for incoming and outgoing goods clearly marked out. That means more automation and greater speed and accuracy of delivery. “We are working with a lean warehousing paradigm, and are currently reviewing both our procedures and our equipment,” Emilson says. “We are trying to eliminate everything that is not absolutely needed.”

New packaging protects environment

The company is also looking at its packaging, giving it a graphic facelift, but more importantly, trying to simplify it and reduce the number of variants. By using less packaging and introducing biodegradable bags, SLP is both reducing its impact on the environment and saving money.

50 million kronor project

Construction is being carried out by Örebro Bygg & Konsult on behalf of developer Kumla Fastigheter. The estimated cost of the project is SEK 50 million, and the developer has signed a ten-year lease with Swedish Lorry Parts. The new building will be ready for occupancy in January 2017. “Of course it’s a big ticket item, but it’s a major investment in our future,” says Jimmy Lekensjö, president of Kumla Fastigheter. “We hope SLP will stay here for many years to come.”

"We are now building 4200 square meters of additional space to accommodate our spare parts warehouse," explains Peter Emilson, CEO of Swedish Lorry Parts. The new building is scheduled to be inaugurated in January 2017.

Recipe for rapid growth

The current storage and production facilities, covering almost 3,500 square metres, were built in 2009. Today they are already too cramped.“Since our founding in 1991, we have focused single-mindedly on high quality products,” says Peter Emilson. “This is our recipe for success: alternative spare parts for trucks, buses and construction equipment from Volvo and Scania that are always as good or better than the original parts. We develop our own tools and manufacture most of our products in Europe. We want the best for ourselves and our customers.”
